Fall is the best time of year and watching it rain from the second story 40 ft window on the south library wall is a treat. Everything about the view screams build a fire, snatch a blanket and READ a "good book."

Sand Sculpting!

The World Championship of sand sculpting has been underway in Federal Way, Washington since September 8, 2010, The artist work will remain on display until October 10th. This is the first time that this event has been held in the United States. The artists start by mixing the sand with just the right amount of water and shoveling it into huge wooden boxes. Then the fun begins. They break away the forms and begin sculpting with their hand tools. Their work is AMAZING!

Beautiful Mt. Timpanogos

The Provo River

Mount Timpanogos is a gorgeous venue whether you are hiking it or just driving through. This week in the library we will be see a power point presentation and talk about the history and legend of this spectacular place. Included are the animals that live there, the habitat, the Indians, Ray Stewart, "Timp Roberts" and the "hike" that nearly ruined it all.

BIL LEPP
five time winner
West Virginia's Liar Contest

My favorite storyteller this year was Bil Lepp, five time winner of The West Virginia's Liar Contest. He was hilarious. I purchased two of his CDs and we will listen to one of his stories in the library this week.

"Book it" to the library

It's been a great first week in the library...
We have such eager readers at Freedom Academy. Many, many students come to the library multiple times a week. Sometimes I don't even stamp their books with a due date... I know they will be back in a day or two looking for the next "great read."
Because we are now on an A/B schedule, I have two groups of library aids. Pictured here are the B- day assistants...

Thomas Won, Victoria Shelley, and Madison Johnson
THEY ARE FUN!
Without them I would be literally buried under a very large pile of books that needed to be shelved.

Heading into Fall

It's the best time of year. In these last days of August the weather has cooled slightly and oh, those delicious thunderstorms.
It's been fun to be back in school and to see all the familiar faces and a few new ones. Freedom Academy is a great place!

We start our regular library schedule on Monday. I'm anxious to show you all our new books and to tell you about our upcoming programs. Click on the link to the right titled...
"Mystery Night in the Library" It's going to be fun.

Update on our mural in the library....

I just received this picture from our mural artist Brian Bird. He has sculpted the characters and photographed them so he has something to paint from. The next step is to finish a full color painting for the T- shirts and then on to the actual mural.

HOW EXCITING!
