Groundhog's Day is a true American tradition.. The history behind it stretches back to the 1700's in Pennsylvania where the Dutch settlers used a groundhog as a weather predictor
The legend states that if the groundhog comes out of his hole and sees his shadow on Groundhog's day, he will run back in and there will be six more weeks of winter. However, if he does not see his shadow, he will stay out and there will be an early Spring
Groundhog Day is celebrated every year on Feb. 2nd Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, population 5,864 is considered it's home. This year marks the 125th Anniversary of this holiday.
